Sant Gulab Singhji & Sripad Babaji

                                                          « ҉ »  श्री   « ҉ »

Bring back the one who left.
Lure him with music
or any irresistible pretext.

If he says, I will be there in a little while,
that is part of his beguiling,
his art that can tie strands of water into knots
and make weavings of the wind.

Do not accept those.
Bring the presence!

Sit down within that and live inside
what is beyond physical beauty,
beyond the sun's extravagance
or the handsomeness of human beings.

Yemen has the most exquisite rubies,
but the one I want to see
coming through the door
is the one who lives here. ~

The Face of the Beloved Master ~ Sant Gulab Singhjio ~

Sant Gulab Singhjio ~ Beautiful  Beyond Imagination!!
Hazaaron Pranam ! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*

Sant Gulab Singhjio and Guru Sant Teja Singhjio ~

Sant Teja Singhji, the beloved Guru of Sant Gulab Singhji, was first
met by him outside his village of Thoa Khalsa, Pakistan. where he stayed
under a tree beside the Gurudwara. When anyone asked him in or tried to
bring him food he refused saying that he had come all the way from Village
Mankapur, near Lucknow with his own food rashin. "I have not come of my
own free will." 'Mere Nirankar ka hukam se aiya hun. Main yahan se ek
jeeva lena hai!' "I've come by the will of God, to take one soul from here!"
Actually Santji's grown-up son, Jeswant Singh was always fond of
meeting saints of every kind and it was he who first came to meet him, as
Santji had always told him to bring any visiting saints home to the house.
He first took with him his Chachaji Jesbir Singh. Santji said that his
younger brother was a real saint. That daily he would get up at 4 am, go
outside and melt the ice to have bath, and then sing prayers on every
step up to the top of the house where he did his morning 'path'.
As they went along the pathway to meet the visiting Saint Teja Singhji, he
quietly recited to himself a favorite poem of Hafiz. How beautiful and
amazing that when Jasbir and Jeswant Singh  reach there, Sant Teja Singhji
first called out, " Jesbirji, let us also hear Hafiz :

"Ba mai sajjda rangeen kun gar Pira ma gah goed,
ki salik bekhabar na bawad, rasmo rahe manzil!"

Later when Sant Gulab Singhji heard the event , he secretly knew that
he was the one the saint had come for! He immediately went to meet him,
this saint 30 years younger then himself. At first sight of Sant Teja Singhji,
Santji became totally unconscious and for days did not leave his sight.
He told me himself that Teja Singhji never slept at night, but only for 2 hrs.
in the afternoon. At that time Santji would lie on a mat on the ground.
At night devotees would come and he would hear them sing 'Soni Mehiwal'
or 'Heer Ranjha' and again go into samadhi!

✶*¨`*✶♥Sant Gulab Singhjeo & Sri Sri Anandamayi Maji✶*¨`*✶♥

Jai Ma!  The purest divine beauty that only spent time in kirtana and then
went straight into samadhi! This was her only sadhana as a child she was only
interested in the Inner Path, which came so easy to her. And only with a short
time spent in spontaneous yogasanas, she would go into samadhi! Ah ho!
She was even most of her time in a speechless state of 'maun'. Many times
we would come for her beautiful 'darshan', just to see her, and she would
be in maun, yet be sitting blissfully within the kirtana, with drums, and all the
chanting going on around her...in ecstasy! All in the ashrama were always
encouraged to spend some time daily in this silence!
It came to be that she was so engrossed and energized from these
moments in samadhi that she lost all interest in normal food! Her closest ones
soon took it on themselves to daily feed her by hand, and it came to be so
that she thereafter never ate on her own again! Maybe on a rare occasion,
like when she would suddenly start to sing, and a spontaneous kirtana would
begin around her of loving devotees. Or sometimes she would stand up and
dance in a state of divine rapture!
Truly like the Devi herself, she was unconcerned with the so called rules
of this world and followed another Divine Law, known exclusively to Her.
Sri Anandamoyi Ma!
The wonderful reunion of Maji and beloved Sant Gulab Singhji came
unscheduled in the Winter of 1978, at her ashrama in Pune.  Santji and I
were visiting the very dear and longtime devotees of Santji, Surgeon
Rear Admiral MS Melhotra and his family. After the morning 'Katha' and
breakfast were finished a devotee informed us that Ma Anandamayi was
staying there at her Pune Ashrama. Santji was vividly overjoyed and as
usual he wasted no time and said, " bring my walking stick and let's go!"
I was thrilled at the thought of seeing Maji again. In no time we were in
the car, Dr. Melhotra driving. We arrived about noon and the ashrama
was totally silent. Finally we were told by someone that Maji was resting
now and would not see anyone! Oh, in a moment Dr. Sahibji spoke up
and said that it was Sant Gulab Singhji of Chandigarh that was here to
see her and that Ma would want to be told immediately. So, we waited
in a lovely huge tent for Sat Sang that was constructed outside of maji's
room. Even I was surprised to see Ma come rushing in and straight over
to Santji, calling out, "Pitaji! Pitaji! Pitaji! Santji rose up and called out,
Ma! Ma! Ma! We all stood wonder struck at the amazing sight! There
was Maji wrapped in her white sari, reaching over and down to touch his
feet. While Santji was glowing in his white kurta pajama with white turban
reaching towards Maji's feet!! Their arms crossed and heads came together!
Their cheeks were flushed and red. "Ma!" "Pitaji!" "Ma!" "Pitaji!" "Ma!"
They both looked like small children, faces full of joy..."Ma!" " Pitaji!" " Ma!"
Tears of ecstasy were running down all our faces to witness the childlike love
of these two great saints! Still when I remember this vision the heart comes up
into the throat...and one is over whelmed with intense ecstatic Love!

On the Borders of a Dreaming Wilderness

"One whom I sought I found in distant lands,
I have obeyed my heart, I have carried out thy will
On the borders of a dreaming wilderness."

                                               'Savitri'    Sri Aurobindo

In Shimla at Erwin Lodge, Santjeo daily read out loud with me
the book Savitri by Sri Aurobindo. It was actually the only book
in English we ever read together. Magnificent! It is one of the few
great works ever written in English by a fully realised soul.
It's depth is truly astonishing particularly when read by a saint
of Santji's caliber! There were suspended moments when we
became transfixed in another consciousness so completely
as to simply forget to breathe, in a space less timelessness bliss.
It is still a masterpiece I highly recommend, that has immense,
depth and spiritual power to inspire divine Love and Light.

"Armored with love and faith and sacred joy,
A traveler to the Eternal's house
Once let unwounded pass a mortal life."

Awe! How splendidly He moves the spirit
and sends it soaring into a tranquil star filled infinity!
So I continued in lost delight...

'O Mother! Know this to be true of the world now,

that there is a man of God here, his age is infinite,

He answers my thought waves, in Truth.

There is a spiritual feeling as if floating in joy

Sant Gulab Singhji and Swami Jnanananda Giri

Swami Jnanananda Giri & Sant Gulab Singhji together at Chandigarh in 1971

With Sant Gulab Singhjio and Swami Jnanananda Giri in old photos with blessings!.¸¸.•*`*•.✽

This is the only photo I have of me with both Sant Gulab Singhjio
and Swami Jnanananda Giri standing at my back, as they say!   (Saproon, H.P.)

And this is a most precious picture of Santji and I back in our lovely
days together, 1976 in Punjab.  Once when he had said,' Ask me for anything
you want!' I said,'Krishna!' To my surprise he said, 'Oh, He is already yours.
Ask me for something else!' .¸¸.•*`*•.✽
Then tears came in my eyes when I thought of how my visa was finishing
soon, and that I may have to leave India, but I said nothing. As if he heard my
thoughts he said, 'Don't worry about your papers, these boundaries between
countries are all man-made. God has no boundaries! You may go wherever
you like, whenever you like!' He patted my head and slapped my cheek.
And that was it!!
I didn't realize it then, but by His Grace, all that he said now seems to be
so true. Who can say when and what blessings will come from a saint!!

                                     ~*~ Beloved Pita Ji ~*~ 1881~1985

A Mystic and a saint of such a caliber one can hardly
hope to ever meet, yet it was just this rare and perfect a
Realized Master I had been looking for in India for four
months before finding him. To my utter delight the
moment he saw me come into the room he opened up his
arms and said, 'You have come! Come! Come!'  And I ran
into the most wonderful embrace of my life!  It was like
diving into an ocean of ecstatic bliss! And when I looked
into that smile I felt my search was over at last and I was
launched into another space immediately!  That Pure
Joy baffles the mind at once, and the spark from his
flaming heart caught mine and burned away all doubt,
questions, confusion, pain, and superfluous thoughts
whatever. In his presence there could only be Pure Light
          and pure Love!
                                                            ~*~
Where he really existed one can only aspire to
imagine!! Though outwardly he lived the simplest life
style, it is this that is a great part of his beauty and
perfection. There was no particular house he owned yet
every house he visited seemed to be his! A suitcase of
clothes etc.  was always there ready to go at a moments
notice! This  simple style was contagious and I also lived
like this in India for 15 years. But I never found yet such
a natural excellence as his. He was to be seen and heard
every morning by devotees giving a talk of talks! We
relished mostly sitting with him in the afternoons when
he would read informally and share with us from the
original  Persian of 'Divane Hafiz', 'Masnavi', the works
of Sheikh Attar, or Aurobindo's 'Savitri' much of it he
knew by heart, his was a photographic memory.
And then daily there were the long, fascinating evening
walks in the Rose garden, by the Lake, or in the local
forest, wherever we were it was intoxicating without wine!

                                                           ~*~

A Soul of Pure  Bliss! In all my time with him I never
saw him angry or upset, but the opposite! Rather he gave
blessings to everyone who came to him. He is still an
ocean of Light! Even now I hear his after dinner stories
and remember all our laughter, the belly aching cheer he
would inspire!  Wherever he went became a meeting
place of  mystics, sadhus, saints and devotees! There was
singing, dancing, and Satsang wither in Shimla, Bombay,
Lucknow, or New Delhi. He seemed to know how to speak
every language, most of all he knew the language of the
Heart, and would whisk us away in a moment to places
beyond words!  Pita Ji is truly a Mystic Saint that
never leaves us for a moment, but is all the closer now
that there is no body between us!!

Beloved Sant Gulab Singhjio

This is my favorite picture of Beloved Pitajio,
Sant Gulab Singhji, taken in the Palace at Patiala.
It was 1979, and then we all sat together, Satyaji,
Dr. Melhotra, myself and others while Santjio
read out from the original Persian of 'Divane Hafiz',
and gave us ecstatic explanations and stories!
How blessed these moments are forever.
Khuda Hafiz!

                                                   Beloved Pitaji, Sant Gulab Singhjio,
at the N.I.S, Patiala, in the 'Raj Mahal'. 1979
