The Eighth Durga form is "Maha Gauri." She is as white as a conch, as the moon and as Jasmine. Her clothes and ornaments are white and clean yet she is just a child. Her vehicle is a white bull, she has four arms and three eyes. In her hands she holds the Trishul and Damaru, the other two are in Abhey Mudra, the gesture giving fearlessness, and Ver Mudra granting boons. She is calm and serene and exists in pure bliss. It is said that when the body of Gauri became soiled due to dust and dirt while observing penance, Shiva washed her clean with the splendorous waters of Ganges. Then her body shone bright like lightening. There fore, she is known as "Maha Gauri".
